The place

Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, has two interesting places to visit - the huge fishing port and the equally huge camel market, which is the second largest in the world after the one in Sudan. However, the size can be debated as there are similar markets in many places worldwide. For example, I believe the one in Pushkar, India is the largest, having visited it twice and still not being able to explore it all.

The place is dusty and dirty, filled with camels and men in blue clothes trading them. It's a paradise for photographers and lovers of interesting places. However, some may describe it as hot and smelly. For locals, it is a workplace where they spend most of their lives.

We walked along a dirty road, passing small herds of camels and groups of people dressed in blue, who were trading amongst themselves. There was some commotion as a few camels became restless, but overall, the locals were friendly and had no issue with us taking pictures.

The city of Nouakchott is often referred to as the ugliest capital in the world, but I would rather call it exotic. Everyone who visits the city comes to this market.
