The story
As our group explored the fortress, we marveled at how well-preserved it stood amid the destruction of surrounding houses and neighborhoods. After climbing over walls and winding through the fortress's labyrinth, we entered a small church adorned with remarkable frescoes and blessed with exceptional acoustics. It was in this space that our guide chose to perform the adhan for us.
Join us on our tour through Syria.
The adhan, traditionally recited by a muezzin from a minaret, is the Islamic call to prayer that summons the faithful to enter the mosque for obligatory prayers. A second call—the iqamah—signals those already gathered in the mosque to line up for prayer.
The experience was truly magnificent and majestic.
