About the place

It was getting dark and extremely cold (about -40°C). We drove through the old part of Yakutsk, where old, shabby wooden houses still stood. I returned later on my own, and even though it was already dusk, I managed to walk through the neighborhood and photograph some of the houses. Most of them were in poor condition and on the verge of collapse. In between them, huge new apartment blocks were slowly but surely rising. The sight of the apartment blocks amidst the old houses, against the backdrop of smoking chimneys from the heating plants, seemed eerie to me.

Darkness was settling in as the night lights illuminated the foggy cityscape. Residents hurried by, creating a surreal atmosphere.
