Varna, my hometown and current residence, holds a special place in my heart. After extensively traveling the world, I have come to the realization that Varna is the most beautiful city for me. In this blog post, I want to share with you my collection of images taken over the past 10-15 years, showcasing the enchanting city of Varna. You may also be interested in exploring the gallery of black and white photos from Varna, captured during the same period.
As the third-largest city in Bulgaria and the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and in the Northern Bulgaria region, Varna holds great significance. Strategically situated in the Gulf of Varna, the city has been a major hub of economic, social, and cultural activities for almost three millennia. Historically known as Odessos, Varna has evolved from a Thracian seaside settlement to a prominent seaport on the Black Sea.
Varna serves as a vital center for business, transportation, education, tourism, entertainment, and healthcare. Often referred to as the maritime capital of Bulgaria, it is home to the headquarters of the Bulgarian Navy and merchant marine. In 2008, Varna was designated as the seat of the Black Sea Euroregion by the Council of Europe. Furthermore, in 2014, Varna proudly earned the title of European Youth Capital 2017.
Not only does Varna boast a rich contemporary significance, but it also holds a remarkable historical heritage. The world's oldest gold treasure, belonging to the Varna culture, was discovered in the Varna Necropolis and dates back to 4600–4200 BC. Since the discovery of the Varna Necropolis in 1974, archaeologists have unearthed 294 burial sites, containing over 3000 golden artifacts.
In conclusion, Varna captivates with its stunning coastal scenery, vibrant culture, and deep historical roots. Whether you explore its modern attractions or delve into its ancient treasures, Varna offers a truly unique experience. Join me in celebrating the beauty and allure of this remarkable city.
