The story

In May 2022, I had the privilege of leading a small group in Iran. Among our most fascinating stops was the ancient city of Yazd. The city's heritage remains beautifully preserved—from its traditional districts and qanat water system to its ancient houses, bazaars, hammams, mosques, synagogues, Zoroastrian temples, and the historic Dolat-abad garden. This preservation allows visitors to experience the city's rich and vibrant past firsthand.

One of the oldest human settlements on Earth, the Old Town of Yazd is a mesmerizing blend of residential palaces and homes. Tall walls and winding alleys create an intricate labyrinth where visitors can easily lose their way without guidance. The city reveals its treasures to those who take time to explore—hidden courtyards, ornate wooden doors, photogenic corners, and dramatic light shafts make every turn worthwhile. With architecture and streets that span over 4,000 years of history, Yazd stands as one of the world's most distinctive places. Step inside, and you'll find yourself transported through time, immersed in a unique culture. Each new path leads to another hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Yazd is considered Iran's most extensive, systematic, and historically authentic urban area, as well as the world's second-largest residential adobe settlement. The city showcases remarkable human ingenuity through its architecture and use of local materials, creating buildings that require minimal energy while perfectly adapting to the hot, dry desert climate.

The traditional houses of Yazd feature distinctive mud-brick construction that harmonizes with the desert environment. Their colorful walls and detailed carvings create a unique character for each dwelling. The city's unmatched preservation of its historical authenticity has become fundamental to its cultural identity.

The historical district of Yazd offers unique experiences for visitors, including spectacular sunset views from the Fazeli Hotel Coffee Shop, refreshing milkshakes at Cafe Fooka, and panoramic vistas of the old town from Art House Cafe. Here, guests can savor traditional Yazd cuisine while taking in the breathtaking views.
