The place

In February 2023, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Mauritania with three friends. We started from the capital city of Nouakchott, a place known for its lack of beauty. However, we were determined to uncover the hidden gems that the city had to offer.

Our first stop was the fish harbor located on the coast in the western part of the city. Despite having heard about it before, we were still awe-struck by the size and liveliness of the harbor. It was one of the largest in West Africa, and it was bustling with activity. The colorful boats docked along the shore created a picturesque view, with fishermen and traders going about their business.

As we walked along the harbor, we were mesmerized by a group of men who were working together to pull catches of fish out of boats. It was a sight to behold, and we couldn't help but marvel at their expertise. The fishermen maneuvered their boats with ease, their colorful sails billowing in the wind. It was truly a sight to behold.

As the day progressed, the crowd at the harbor grew thicker, with traders and buyers haggling over prices and inspecting the catch of the day. It was fascinating to see how the fish market was a hub of commerce and trade, with the local fishermen providing the much-needed supply.
